On December 11, 2008, Foster City celebrated the addition of a new bus to the Connections Shuttle Red Line—and the new schedule that went with it. These changes were the result of a concentrated effort to provide the highest quality of service possible to Foster City residents, workers, and visitors.
The Connections Shuttle Red Line had become highly popular, with ridership that put a strain on capacity. This additional bus will allow the line to carry more passengers and remain on its published schedule, a route that mirrors the SamTrans 251 line and cuts waiting times in half.
“I am very proud of Foster City’s commitment to providing transit alternatives for its residents and can’t wait to see this bus driving through town filled to capacity,” remarked Councilmember Linda Koelling.
The celebration was attended by representatives from the Foster City City Council, the Peninsula Traffic Congestion Relief Alliance (PTCRA), the Parking Company of America, and the City/County Association of Governments. Each of these organizations was instrumental in implementing the improvements to the shuttle program.
Speaking at the event were Foster City Council Member and liaison to the Transportation Committee, Linda Koelling, Transportation Committee Chairman Ken Feldstein, and PTCRA Executive Director Christine Maley-Grubl. Following the remarks, Foster City Mayor John Kiramis cut the ribbon, inaugurating the bus into service, aided by Koelling and Feldstein.
The Connections Shuttle is funded by the City of Foster City with a matching grant from the City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo County. It is operated by the Peninsula Traffic Congestion Relief Alliance.
