The Foster City Art Gallery is opening a new exhibition on August 28, 2009, featuring world-known Chinese artist, Wendy Lai. A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2009 from 2 PM to 4 PM.
Titled “Elegance in Nature – Ink Works of Wendy Lai,” the exhibition will run through September 20, 2009. The exhibit will feature 20 paintings in ink and paint.
Wendy Lai is a Hong Kong-born artist and is the President of the International Women Artists Association. Wendy continues the legacy of her predecessors from Lingnan School, capturing the elegance in nature through colors and brushstrokes, blending together Eastern and Western painting techniques, joining New Song style with realism. She is skilled in both drawing and abstract painting, depicting landscapes, birds and flowers and demonstrating a special talent for painting fish and peacocks. Her elegant style of painting, blending of techniques and exquisite use of brush, ink and color have brought a note of grace to her paintings.
Wendy currently serves as the advisor of the Sino-Japanese Art Institute; researcher at the China Central Art Research Institute of Painting and Calligraphy; researcher at the Research Institute of Chinese Painting Arts of West Lake, Hangzhou; Arts Committee advisor and honorary researcher at the Panyu Museum; board member of West Lake International Artists Association; and board member of the Guangdong Province Association of Chinese Culture Research.

In 2008, Wendy participated in the “Countdown to Beijing Olympics Art Exhibition” at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing. Wendy was given the Merit Award at the “Contemporary Chinese Writers Art Exhibition” in 2007 and the Excellence Award at the “Guangdong Uniform Battlefront: 30th Anniversary of China Reform Art Exhibition.” Wendy’s paintings are found among the collections of the Zhejiang Shaoxing Municipal Government, St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, Panyu Museum, Xilin Seal Engraver’s Guild, Zhejiang University, Shaoguan University, Macao Foundation, and Museum of the Lingnan School of Painting.
