The Foster City Police Department is urging citizens to be observant in their neighborhoods and while traveling through the City. Since January 1, 2011, nineteen residential burglaries have taken place in Foster City, most in the southern portion of the community. Two of the incidents this year involved homes that were occupied at the time the suspect entered.
To be most effective, crime prevention needs to be a citywide effort. While police officers and detectives patrol the neighborhoods, residents should be monitoring activities in the community. When witnessing suspicious people or activity, such as open doors to residences or other things that are out of the ordinary, citizens must take action by immediately calling the police and providing detailed information about the situation. Be wary of people knocking on your door and asking for someone who does not live in your home or people you have never seen before who appear to be working in the area. Give the location, nature of the suspicious activity, and description of the people involved. “Your call could solve or prevent a crime.” You and your family should also make a practice of locking your exterior doors even when you are home.
