The City Council and staff of Foster City deeply grieve the loss of Planning Commissioner Ron Cox who died Saturday, July 9, 2011.

Ron was a City Councilmember from November 1999 through December 2007, serving as Mayor in 2002 and 2007. He was a Planning Commissioner from June 1995 to November 1999 and again from January 2008 until his passing.

In addition to his service to the City as a Mayor, Councilmember and Planning Commissioner, Ron was a dedicated volunteer, actively involved with the Foster City Lions Club, Foster City Chamber of Commerce and youth sports programs. Recently, Ron Cox was instrumental in creating a volunteer-based parking plan that raised over $14,000 to offset the cost of this year’s Foster City Fourth of July fireworks display.

In recognition of his many years of service to the community, Ron was inducted into the Foster City Community Wall of Fame in 2010.

Mayor Linda Koelling spoke warmly of former Mayor Cox, whom she noted, “gave service with devotion such that he earned the respect and admiration of all with whom he came in contact, both professionally and personally.”

A memorial service will be held to honor the life of Ron Cox on Friday, July 15 at 1:30 PM at Central Peninsula Church, 1005 Shell Boulevard, Foster City, followed by a reception at the Foster City Recreation Center, 650 Shell Boulevard.
