Case Study of a Creative and Clever Re-User - How One Person Simplified Her Life and Bought Nothing New for a Year

Foster City, CA; December 29, 2010

Join the City of Foster City and its Environmental Sustainability Task Force at the first “Go Green” Speakers Series event of the New Year.

The presentation “Case Study of a Creative and Clever Re-User: How One Person Simplified Her Life and Bought Nothing New For a Year” will take place on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the Foster City Council Chambers, 620 Foster City Boulevard. There will be a reception with light refreshments at 6:30 PM, and the program begins at 7 PM. The event is free, and reservations are suggested. E-mail gogreen@fostercity.org or call 650-286-3291 to RSVP for this event.

Speaker Shawn Rosenmoss, Senior Environmental Specialist with the San Francisco Department of the Environment, will share her personal experience of how she went a year without buying anything new. Rosenmoss will explain why she decided to undertake this project, the challenges she faced, and how her commitment turned into a lesson on society, media and how the environmental movement can more effectively empower people to consume less and care about the planet more. She will discuss the environmental impact of the goods that we buy, reflect upon why we want more “stuff” and reveal how buying less can improve both your life and the environment. Attendees will leave with an entirely new perspective on what it means to reduce, reuse, recycle and repair. By reducing the use of non-renewable goods and using the new recycling and composting services in Foster City, residents can simplify their lives and take action toward a healthier planet.

This event is hosted by Foster City’s Environmental Sustainability Task Force. The task force is dedicated to helping the Foster City community to live in an environmentally sustainable way. This seminar is part of a series that will be offered throughout 2011. To learn more about this and future seminars, visit: www.fostercity.org/news/go-green.cfm.
