FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Changes Coming to the Senior Express Bus Program

Foster City, CA; April 27, 2011

The City of Foster City has announced that the Senior Express door-to-door service and monthly senior Lunch Bunch Program will be eliminated effective July 1, 2011. The Senior Express Bus will continue to be used for Senior Wing Trips & Tours and will also be available for private rentals.

Foster City seniors may seek alternatives for daily transportation and additional information through:

  • Redi Wheels (operates 7 days per week): 1-800-660-4287
  • PJCC “Get Up & Go” (operates 3 days per week): 650-378-2750
  • SamTrans Senior Mobility Ambassador Program (resource for assistance in planning routes for public transportation): 650-508-6362
  • Seniormobilty.org (resource information for senior transportation, including the Senior Mobility Guide)

At the March 28, 2011 City Council meeting, City Council directed staff to eliminate the door-to-door component of the Senior Express Bus Program (which includes the Lunch Bunch program) in order to save approximately $28,000 in City funding. The City Council is working hard to resolve an annual General Fund structural deficit of over $3 million by Fiscal Year 2013-2014. In reducing expenditures, changes in City services are expected.

The next Budget Study Session will be held in the Council Chambers located at 620 Foster City Boulevard on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 5:30 PM and may be continued to Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 5:30 PM. Final direction on programs and services will be given by City Council when the new budget is adopted in June 2011. Meetings are open to the public or may be viewed on Foster City TV -- Comcast Channel 27, ATT Channel 99 or streaming at www.fostercity.tv. Agendas for City Council meetings are available on the City’s website, www.fostercity.org, on the Wednesday prior to the meeting.
