FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Artwork of Peter Foucault and Jenna North Featured at Foster City Art Gallery

Foster City, CA; April 9, 2009

Now showing through May 1, 2009, the Foster City Art Gallery is proud to feature Re:Source, a collaborative exhibition which includes drawings and paintings by Peter Foucault and Jenna North. Also featured are video and animation pieces Bay Area Artists Larry Sheradon, Matthew Parrot and Scott Kiernan that respond to Foucault and North’s work as source material to create an expanded dialog with their own individual multi-media art-making practice.

At a public Artist Reception on Saturday April 11, 2009, Bay Area multi-media artist Jonathan Grover will be presenting a sound piece which samples artworks by Foucault and North, creating a rich ambient soundscape.

Jenna Rose North is a graduate student at the San Francisco Art Institute. As an abstract painter, North’s work investigates natural/virtual phenomenon as seen through energy fields of pattern and chaos produced by extreme weather, frequency waves in nature, deviations from computer based scientific graphics, and the alchemy of paint.

Larry Sheradon utilizes digital video and computer animation to mine visual elements of Jenna North’s richly textured abstract paintings. Both artists collaborate on a dynamic, lyrical investigation into current issues in global warming and climate change.

Peter Foucault is a multi-media artist who creates self-perpetuating systems responding to elements of chance. This investigation has led to the incorporation of robotics, biological medium, and climatic factors such as the wind and rain. His work is concept driven, and often utilizes objects that reference printmaking and multiplicities.

Matthew Parrott and Scott Kiernan respond to the intricate patterns and algorithms in Peter Foucault’s drawings, embarking on innovative video and animation journeys that dissect, question, morph and transform, their original source material. The Foster City Art Gallery is located at 650 Shell Boulevard in Foster City. Gallery hours are Monday thru Saturday from 9 AM to 9 PM. For gallery and art tours by reservation, contact the Parks & Recreation Department or the Arts and Culture Committee Chair and Art Gallery Director Gina Kuo at 650- 286-3380. The gallery is handicapped accessible.

The Foster City Art Gallery is a not-for-profit public art gallery which operates for the benefit and enrichment of the public.
