CLASSES BEGIN 6/23/2010
Do you know what to do if a disaster occurs? Do you have a plan for responding in case of an earthquake? Will you be able to protect yourself and your family members? If you answered “No” to any of these questions, you are not alone, but the Foster City Fire Department can help you get prepared!
On Wednesday, June 23, 2010 the Foster City Fire Department will begin a session of its Community Emergency Response Team training, a series of seven classes over the course of 25 hours. All classes are held on Wednesdays at the Foster City Fire Department, 1040 E. Hillsdale Blvd., from 6:30 to 9:00 PM and are taught by Assistant Fire Marshal, Lee Bach, and other certified CERT Trainers.
CERT trains civilians to respond when a disaster occurs. Learn basic disaster preparedness and life saving skills, use of a fire extinguisher, disaster medical care, first aid, search and rescue techniques, how to communicate using radios and neighborhood team building.
Following a major disaster, fire and medical services will be unable to meet sudden and high demands. Rising numbers of victims, communication failures and road blockages will prevent emergency services from responding as quickly as people have come to expect. Community members will have to rely on each other for help in order to meet their immediate life saving and sustaining needs.
Foster City has trained approximately 480 CERT volunteers to serve the Foster City Community. Enroll in the upcoming training class and see how you can prepare your family and community in case of a disaster.
