Defibrillators

The City of Foster City is committed to saving lives by promoting a public automated external defibrillator (AED) program.  The City of Foster City Life-Saver program strategically places AED units in highly visible locations including: City Hall, Police Station, Recreation and Community Centers and Corporation Yard. Each unit is housed in a cabinet and directly linked to County Emergency Dispatch Center. Once it is pulled from the cabinet, Foster City Paramedics and Police are immediately dispatched to the scene.

Defibrillators are portable electronic medical devices that automatically diagnose life threatening cardiac rhythms and treat patients with electrical therapy to allow the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.  These devices are known as automated external defibrillators or AEDs.  Training for AEDs is offered through the Fire Department's CPR course, but AEDs are designed for the use of the layman.

The Foster City Public AED Access program currently has AEDs in the following locations:

  • The Foster City Recreation Center on Shell Blvd
  • The Foster City Corporation Yard office building on 3rd Ave
  • The Foster City Community Center
  • The library
  • Council Chambers
  • Police station
  • 2 in Sea Cloud Park
  • City Hall
