Job Specification
DEFINITION:
Organizes and conducts recreation activities, programs and events.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS, FEATURES, REQUIREMENTS:
This is an experienced level, part-time, typically seasonal position.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED:
Supervises Recreation Leader I and II and participates in activities. Receives direct supervision from the Recreation Coordinator.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Leads, teaches, demonstrates, officiates activities such as special events, trips, tours, arts and crafts activities and adult education classes for the City's newly constructed Senior Center; oversee daily operations at the City's teen center, including developing, promoting and implementing programs. Provides supervision and monitors to assure compliance with safety and game rules and department guidelines. Maintains attendance and activity records and develops lesson plan and program evaluations. Purchases and monitors equipment and supplies and inventories. Sets up equipment; issues equipment and supplies and collects for storage. Develops ideas and formats for program announcement flyers; provides information and direction on activities. Provides encouragement, feedback and counseling regarding participation. Participates in staff meetings, conferences, training sessions, and makes recommendations on program activities. Supervises staff.
OTHER JOB-RELATED DUTIES:
If licensed, may drive to other facilities in the City depending on the activity location.
JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:  a variety of recreation and cultural activities for children, equipment and supplies and their proper use.
Ability to:  lead participants, communicate activity objectives and rules clearly and effectively; provide information and direction to a wide variety of age groups, conducts games and activities following established rules, guidelines, and time limits; learn, retain and use safety rules and regulation; provide verbal and summarized written feedback on activities; supervise staff.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:
Education:  Completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience:  Previous experience in recreation leadership is required, including group leadership or work with younger children. Previous experience supervising staff.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATION:
Licenses:  None
Certificates:  American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Course or equivalent (including adult, child infant CPR and Standard First Aid).
SALARY:  $13.60 - $15.60 per hour
