|Under immediate supervision, receives training and mentoring in one or more professional disciplines; performs entry level to specialized project assistance in a City/District department; performs research as assigned and applies academic theory, training and education to real life work situations and environments; performs related work as required.|
|DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS, FEATURES, REQUIREMENTS:|
|This is a part-time classification developed to provide the incumbent with real life work experience in a field of public employment. Appointments may be in any City/District department and are based on the educational and training background of the incumbent. Employment is part-time on a project or limited term basis.|
|IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:|

Provides supplemental staffing in a department or division on a project or limited term basis; provides project assistance and functions as a member of a project team.
Utilizes applicable education, training and experience to complete assignments.
Researches and compiles information from various sources; prepares reports and correspondence; creates spreadsheets and other visual information displays.
Processes repetitive and routine documents and forms.
Receives, distributes and mails correspondence; maintains mailing lists.
Attends City Council/District Board, committee, regional and professional meetings as required and for experience and training.
|Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:|
|Knowledge of: the organization and function of a multi-jurisdictional municipal agency; use and applicability of personal and on-line computer systems and related software applications; applicable records and file storage and management systems; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.|
|Skill in: the safe and efficient operation of office equipment including, multi-line business phones, copiers, calculators, personal and on-line computers; creating clear concise written correspondence; making effective oral presentations.|
|Ability to: make accurate arithmetic calculations; understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; effectively communicate verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationship with others; provide courteous and efficient service to the public; ability to learn, retain and use technical terminology, equipment, and computer applications; ability to respond calmly and effectively to changing priorities; establish and maintain effective working relations with those contacted in the course of the work.|
|EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:
|Education: A related degree or degree in progress from an accredited college or university may be required at the time of application. Specific educational requirements will be identified during applicable recruitment processes.|
|Experience: No experience is necessary; 6 months of paid or documented volunteer experience in a municipal agency is desirable.|
|Position requires fingerprinting.|
|LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATION:|
|Licenses: Possession of a valid Class C California Drivers license is desirable, but not required.|
|SALARY: $10.00 - $25.00 per hour|
