DEFINITION:
Provides a full range of support services support for Recreation Division operations, activities, and programs, as well as City-wide events; sets up equipment and furniture arrangements, securing facilities, performing Recreation building/facility audits and minor repairs and assisting with public information.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS, FEATURES, REQUIREMENTS:
This classification is a full-time position and is distinguished from part-time building services staff in that it has overall responsibility for classroom, event, and public service coordination relating to preparation and maintenance of clean, functional facilities, building and room preparation, information and public relations. May be required to work varying hours, including weekends.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED:
Receives direct supervision from the Recreation Manager.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Coordinates the retrieval, moving, setting up, cleaning up, removal and storage of all chairs, tables, equipment, and supplies for a variety of locations, activities and events; ensures the security of building and internal storage facilities; performs physical inspection/audits, damage analysis, maintenance of minor repairs such as changing out door stops, bathroom air fresheners, and some light fixtures; monitors building thermostat controls; assists with cleaning of carpets, kitchens (and kitchen appliances), and windows; performs facility bathroom checks and checks in weekly on Ceramics Room for necessary cleaning (e.g., cleaning the traps, etc.). Provides telephone and walk-in assistance with public information, responding to questions and complaints. Assists with planning, coordination and delivery of recreation services and coordinates with deliveries to the various recreation buildings. Makes recommendations for improvements relating to facilities and monitors replacement status of tables, chairs, and other facility equipment (e.g., popcorn machine, popup tents, ice machine, etc.); assists with purchases for recreation activities and equipment which includes coordinating bids and price quotes for tables, chairs, decorations, small appliances, improvements and staging for special events. Light maintenance of Recreation Division vehicles, including cleaning, gas, washing, and monitoring fluids. Facilitates coordination and communication between Divisions; keeps accurate records and accounts of routine activities and special problems or occurrences. Completes special projects as assigned.

JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:  a variety of operational, activity, and event requirements, including furniture, facilities, and supplies; recreation services goals and objectives; supervisory and training practices.
Skill in:  performing minor maintenance/janitorial tasks; accurately and legibly completing routine forms and reports; training and delegating tasks appropriately.
Ability to:  provide clear information verbally and in writing; respond cooperatively to requests for services; work flexible hours to provide maximum coverage and support; complete routine forms and reports, including building audits and submitting Building Maintenance Work Requests via Intranet; lift and move equipment weighing an average of 30 lbs.; effectively carry out facility set-up drawings and verbal instructions to assure activity success and safety; learn, retain and apply Department policies, procedures and practices; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, members of the general public, and activity participants and instructors; provide information to coordinate services and avoid duplication of efforts between Divisions and Departments.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:
Education:  completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.
Experience:  providing public services, information and directions; providing arrangements and coordination for group functions and activities; performing minor maintenance and repairs; moving and storing equipment, furniture, and supplies.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to safely lift, move and store chairs, tables, and equipment; work with limited direct supervision; work flexible hours; remain calm and use good judgement in difficult and emergency situations; provide courteous public information; ability to identify problems and recommend solutions; drive a car/van to various City facility locations and other businesses in the community.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATION:
Licenses:  Possession of a valid State of California Class “C” License and a good driving record. Driving record is subject to initial and periodic review.
SALARY:  $4,611 - $5,605 per month
