On November 5, 2013, Gary Pollard was elected to serve a four-year term on the City Council.
Gary Pollard is a 25-year resident of Foster City with a proven track record of contribution to Foster City government and community organizations throughout the Peninsula. He is also a well-respected business manager who has successfully run his family business for more than 18 years.
Gary recently finished a six-year term on the Foster City Parks and Recreation Committee, the last year as chair of the committee, during a time that saw the rebuilding of Sea Cloud and Port Royal Parks and the completion of a comprehensive plan for the future of the city’s park system. He also served on the SCORE Committee in 2012, where he helped lead the community initiative to investigate the overcrowding of Foster City’s schools and make recommendations for dealing with the Bowditch Middle School site. In addition, Gary completed CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) in 2012.
City governance is only one aspect of Gary’s contribution to Foster City. He spent 12 years involved in youth sports in the city, including President of Foster City Youth Baseball Association and nine years as a coach for Youth Baseball and Little League. He also coached the Bowditch Middle School basketball team for three years. His name was added to the Foster City Sports Wall of Fame in 2010 in recognition of his efforts.
Beyond Foster City, Gary served a two-year term as President of Peninsula Temple Sholom in Burlingame. He has been an active member of the Temple for more than 20 years. As President he managed an $8.5 million budget and worked with a wide variety of individuals and organizations as the temple completed a major renovation of its synagogue and school. He has also been President of the Alden Crossing Homeowners Association, President of the San Mateo High School Athletic Boosters, and was a Cub Master of Cub Scouts Pack 175 for six years.
Gary and his wife Christine have lived in Foster City since 1988 and have two sons who also live in the community.
