Happy New Year, Foster City!

Welcome to my first of many Council Corners, as I take on the role as your newest City Council member. With that distinction, allow me to be the first to wish you all a very happy New Year and a prosperous 2014!

I'm sure we can all agree that, beginning on January 1st (or 2nd or 3rd or…), we start to make our new year's resolutions - do more reading, more exercising, more volunteering, etc… Mine are quite simple:

1) Be a good husband and father
2) Be a good listener to the needs of our residents
3) Be thorough in my role as a city/civic leader
4) Be respectful of my fellow council members
5) Be mindful of our staff and the hard work they do

Not a bad way to start the New Year!

My first meeting took place on December 16th and the agenda covered many city items helping staff to continue doing their incredible work for all who live, work and play in Foster City. In addition, we met the new and re-appointed members of our citizen advisory committees. These individuals have taken the lead in our community to really get involved and provide a voice for the community, working alongside the City Council and staff to stay informed about the goings on in and the needs of Foster City.

Having spent six years on the Parks & Recreation Committee, I know firsthand about the insights of the Parks & Recreation department, as well as future plans to keep our city up to the standards we all love. A BIG thank you to all of you who serve on these committees!

It was almost a year ago that I began the run for City Council. The amount of preparation and coordination it takes is a quite a lot. It is important to have a clear understanding of why you desire a seat on the City Council and why you want to get involved. And that was my goal for 2013 - proof that it IS indeed possible to keep our New Year's resolutions!

2014 will be an exciting year for Foster City. Many new projects will be starting, along with talks about future growth opportunities, and I can't wait!
