Chief Craig Courtin joined the Foster City Police Department in 1984, and was promoted to Chief of Police on December 19, 2004, replacing Randy Sonnenberg who retired after 30 years of service with the department.
The Office of the Chief provides overall administration and management of the Police Department to ensure appropriate service levels to the community. Specific responsibilities include:
- Preparation and administration of the budget.
- Coordination with other departments and agencies in the delivery of services.
- Preparation of staff studies and special reports.
- Investigation of all complaints against the Department.
- Maintenance of the emphasis on community policing.
- Providing the vision and direction for Department employees to improve the quality of life in all of our neighborhoods and to always maintain a customer focus in the delivery of police services to the community.
