I completed my year as Mayor on November 4th. Russ Harter is our new Mayor and Marland Townsend is our Vice Mayor. I remain on the Council for another year until my term is up and I can choose to rerun for office.
I thought back on my year as Mayor and can?t believe how fast it went by. I also can?t believe how much we accomplished over the last year.
We finally got our permits and started the lagoon dredging project.
We have signed the revised lease agreement with the NPJC and they have pulled building permits and have started construction on their new campus.
I brought two resolutions forward and got unanimous support of our Council for support of Measure C, and the demolition of San Mateo High School. Measure C was passed by the voters last week, and should allow the SMUHSD to move ahead on this project.
I worked on the citizen advisory committees and brought back a report to the City Council. My suggestions were passed by the Council. Each advisory committee will have one of their meetings televised each year so our residents will see these committees at work. Now each committee will come before the Council each year and give an update of activities they have completed and projects they are working on for the current year.
I hope this will spark some interest with our residents and may get more members for these committees.
We had ribbon cutting ceremonies for the Marimar Apartments and the Marlin Cove Apartments along with the opening of the Marlin Cove Shopping Center.
I can?t take credit for all the successes our City had this year but I am proud of being a part of it.
I want to thank all of our residents for giving me a chance to be on the Council and serve you as Mayor.
