Write - Right
WRITE!, RIGHT?

You know, our quality of life here in Foster City is second to none. We have tremendous athletic programs, dance programs, arts programs, senior programs, and community programs all of which help instill in our community the total family values that are so important to creating the environment in which we want to raise our children. Let me tell you about another one of the programs offered by our Arts & Culture Committee that seems to go pretty much unnoticed. Dea Grut, the Vice Chair of our Arts & Culture Committee has written the following incentive for re-awakening in many this very fundamental and necessary form of communication ? writing.

Writer?s Cramp? Not to worry!
If you have a couple thousand words we have a couple hundred dollars?how about that?

But you know, long, long ago if you wanted to write you had to find a goose, pluck a quill, sharpen one end into a point, find a inkwell, with ink!, and finally some paper to write on?.believe it! Shakespeare scratched out volumes!

Well, today we have a wonderful 2002 Foster City International Writer?s Contest?.win a prize and you could relax from writing?for a day?or two? Worth a try! Are we on? No quills ?just thrills?maybe win!

Pick up a flyer, with the complete information, at the main desk of the Foster City Parks and Recreation Center, 650 Shell Boulevard, or from the Foster City Library, 1000 E. Hillsdale Boulevard.

Deadline is 5:00 p.m., October 31, 2002.

Categories are Fiction, Humor, Children?s Story, Personal Essay, Rhymed Verse, Blank Verse.

Volunteer judges are distinguished members of the Peninsula Press Corps.

Come on, don?t be shy?.if you need any hand holding, contact Dea Grut, (650) 574-5065 or Larry Staley, (415) 934-3004, larrystaley@attbi.com

Sponsored by the Foster City Arts and Culture Committee.

As you will see when you pick up the flyer, we are providing $2,250 in awards in six different categories. But what is more important is that we are doing our best to encourage and enhance this very important form of expression and communication.

And, of course, I want to thank Dea for her contribution and her continued dedication to all our arts & cultural activities.
