Mayor Ron Cox

Council Corner
September 4, 2002
by Mayor Ron Cox

Vacation is over - back to school
Summer is almost over and most of the schools are open and kids are back in school. I just wanted to remind everyone to slow down and watch for all the children walking to school. The speed limit at every school is 25 mph when children are present. Please watch out for the yellow busses with those red flashing lights. You must stop and not pass the bus. Our police department is working hard to insure the safety of all the children of Foster City. Please drive safely and cautiously when driving past one of our schools.

We have some great news. The city has received all of the permits required to start the dredging of our lagoons. The council is scheduled to approve a contractor and award a contract this month. The project starts by constructing the pond that will receive the dredged spoils. That should be completed this year and the actual dredging of the lagoons started early next year.

I hope a lot of you got a chance to attend and enjoy the free Summer Concert Series at Leo Ryan Park. The crowds are getting bigger and everyone who attends seems to have a great time. The Summer Concert Series is coordinated by the Park and Recreation Department, with the help of a citizen committee. The concert series is funded by local corporations, small businesses, and donations from local residents.

Congratulations to our 9-10 year old Foster City Little League All Stars. They have won the Northern California State Championship for the 2nd time in 3 years. We are recognizing them at our September 17th council meeting. Make sure you tune in on Channel 27 at 7:30 pm to see them.
