Well, congratulations were in order all the way around the last few weeks. What an outstanding group of people we have working and living in your City. September was the month where the City Council honored community volunteers for their work in the Foster City community through the Council ?Honor?s List?.
Then last week the City Council inducted 13 well deserving residents onto Foster City?s Community Wall of Fame. By my calculation, there was in excess of 200 years of community service between the 13 applicants.
September also saw the City celebrating 30 years of service with two of our finest employees, Phil Torre, our fire chief and Michael Stanley, Parks Maintenance Worker II. It takes both an exceptional employee and an exceptional employer for an employee to work at one place for 30 years. Congratulations to both Phil and Michael for a job well done.
Not to be outdone, FCTV staff came away with major national awards. You may recall a few years back, the 15+ years old technology in place for our government access channel provided us little more than a scrolling bulletin board (which became known as the ?blue screen?). Well, with a little funding from the City Council and a LOT of dedicated work on behalf of the Foster City staff, FCTV took home 5 awards for excellence in programming from the National Association of Telecommunication Officers and Advisors at their annual national awards ceremony. In some cases Foster City was up against as many as 30 other government access channels from all over the United States and with many stations with bigger budgets and staff.
Foster City received the following awards:
Honorable Mention
Election Coverage- Meet the Candidates
3rd Place
Video Text Bulletin Board
2nd Place
Public Safety - From the Sierras to Your Tap
Public Affairs - The General Plan Update.
AND TWO FIRST PLACE AWARDS
Government Access Station Web Site- FCTV Front Page
Community Event Coverage- FC Highlights- Employee Art Exhibit.
Congratulations to Steve Toler and his staff Arlene Shields, Robert Warner, Randy Tan and the rest of Foster City employees and residents who make this such a quality community.
