They are Back
A couple years ago I wrote a few articles about door-to-door salespeople in Foster City. Recently I have been getting e-mails and phone calls from residents saying that the door-to-door salespeople are back. We are not talking about the Girl Scout selling cookies or the non-profit organizations or even the politicians; I am talking about the van full of young adults that are dropped off in a neighborhood with high pressure sells. This type of door-to-door sales requires a permit from our city.

The first thing I ask when salespeople come to my door is “Do you have your permit?” Most will say they don’t need a permit, or they are having a selling contest so they don’t need permits. WRONG! Unless your organization is among the groups I mentioned in the first paragraph, you do need a permit to sell door-to-door in our city.

A lot of these salesmen and salesladies are from out of state and are trained on the high pressure sells techniques. If you get one of these people standing on your door step, please ask for their permit and please don’t hesitate to call our police department to find out if they are permitted. The police department will gladly come out and talk to them.

Please join me and let’s keep the illegal high pressure door-to-door salespeople out of Foster City.
