As your new council member, I am enjoying many new experiences in this city. As liaison to various committees I have the opportunity to meet many dedicated people in their fields of interest.
One of the committees I have the pleasure of being associated with is YAC, the Youth Advisory Committee. I have been very impressed with the group of teens associated with this committee. They have a commitment to working together positively and creating a fun and wholesome environment at the Vibe.
I have enjoyed meeting many of the youth involved in the group and appreciate their talents and ideas. Last week the YAC organized and hosted a spaghetti dinner at the Recreation Center with money going to the American Red Cross. Representatives from the Red Cross were there to talk about the extensive work they did in the southern California fires.
The youth cooked, served, cleaned and even organized entertainment for the evening’s festivities. Raffle tickets were sold and many fine prizes were available for the winners. The entertainment was phenomenal. Again this was all organized by our teens. When I read the newspapers I often see more negative press about this age group rather than positive.
I am very impressed with what YAC is attempting to do for our community. YAC is made up of very dedicated teens. They are determined to have fun and coordinate positive experiences for their peers.
I want to thank Foster City’s Recreation Coordinator, Tiffany Hall, for her guidance and energy in working with our teens. They are on the road to becoming future leaders in our community.
I am proud to be the liaison for YAC and want to publicly thank them for what they are doing in our City.
