Council Corner
July 9, 2003

Summer is Here
It is definitely summer. The kids are out of school, the weather is warm and we just had a great 4th of July celebration in the Park. With cities all over the state cutting budgets and ?extras? like fireworks display, I am proud of the Council for agreeing to keep the fireworks and for our staff for finding the money in the budget to make this work.

Thanks also to the Island United Church of Foster City for their Annual Pancake Breakfast and Lions Club for the Fourth of July Festivities.

Don?t forget that the Summer Concert Series starts this Friday night, July 11 in Leo Ryan Park. And, my personal favorite event, the Annual Sandcastle Building Contest is set for Saturday, July 12 at Gull Park. Bring your own buckets and tools, the City supplies the sand!

As you plan your summer, let me share with you a couple of public works projects which you may see around town. Lagoon dredging is still taking place throughout the lagoon. Civic Center Master Plan improvements will also generate construction activity around the Library/Community Center Government Center and North Peninsula Jewish Campus project.

You also might want to be aware that as part of the City?s ongoing maintenance of our streets and roads that several streets are due for resurfacing this summer. They include: East Hillsdale Blvd (from Shell to Rainbow Bridge), Shell Blvd (from Metro Center to Shell Blvd Bridge), Beach Park Blvd, (southbound Shell Blvd to Foster City Blvd), Catamaran (Shell Blvd to Beach Park Blvd), Matsonia St. (Goldhunter Ct to Harvester Dr.), Cumberland Street, Goldhunter Court and Lido Street. There will be additional slurry seal work done on numerous streets throughout the City.

A list of streets where work will be done is posted on the City?s website at www.fostercity.org. So, if you live on one of these streets and plan to take a vacation or an extended weekend, leaving your car parked on the street, you might want to check to see if and when your street will be resurfaced.

As always, I am pleased to hear from you on issues of importance and can be reached at dwilder@fostercity.org.
