Summer is definitely upon us and I want to thank the Foster City Lion’s Club and all the city employees who worked this Fourth of July to create such a wonderful Independence Day event. The fireworks were particularly spectacular this year. In the wake of world events, I am even more grateful to be an American.
Before your summer starts to slip away (as mine sometimes does) let me remind you that our Summer Concerts in the Park will be starting shortly. Please check our Foster City website, www.fostercity.org, for a listing of these concerts or check with the Park and Recreation Department or in your Leisure Update.
Additionally, there are other fun and inexpensive events being held in Foster City this year. This includes two presentations by the Hillbarn Theater Conservatory. These plays and presentations are generally put on by our young people.
July 14th - 17th includes a presentation of “Spellbound”. Students from the Conservatory at Hillbarn Theater will perform songs from such classics as “Wicked”, “The Producers”, and “Chicago”.
During July 28th - 31st a presentation of “Once Upon A Mattress” will be performed at Hillbarn Theater. This is a classic musical theater fable based on the story “The Princess and the Pea”. Both sound like fun and worthwhile events.
On a more serious note, I want to share with the public that Foster City continues to take the issues of public safety and disaster preparedness very seriously. Based on increased training over the last several years, I have no doubt that our city employees and volunteers are adequately trained to address any issue in an emergency. However, it is incumbent on all of us to be ever vigilant in this current age regarding safety and the actions of others which might impact upon that safety. The recent bombings in the London subway is just one example.
Summer is a time to enjoy the weather, our families, and the best Foster City has to offer. I look forward to seeing many of you at these upcoming events.
