One of the most important decisions the City Council will face in the near future is selecting a developer for your 15 acres in the center of our City. The April 30th special Council meeting was held to look at and hear proposals from the three finalists. My attention at that time was focused primarily on the vision for our City these developers had prepared. I had mixed feelings about the presentations and what effect their vision would have.
There is still a great amount of detail that needs to be discussed before I, as a member of the Council, am prepared to make a decision. I have said publicly that I will not be rushed to make a decision on this site. I do believe that a developer decision must be made in the near future (I have no timeline) in order to give the charter high school foundation some indication as to whom they will have to work with as they proceed with their decision-making process.
All development plans, economic impact analysis, and environmental impact reports will be held in open public meeting and subject to citizen input. In other words the same review process the individual citizen must go through for a project approval must and will be followed.
There have been several questions raised already by members of the public. Many of the questions are excellent and well thought out. Answers to the questions must be addressed prior to decisions being made. Some must be answered before a developer is selected and some during the public review process.
As one member of the City Council I can promise that I will take the time to evaluate proposals, consider their value to the City as well as their feasibility to be completed, and their overall impact on our ability to continue to enjoy our community.
