I’ve often wondered where the idea of setting New Year’s resolutions began. The dictionary defines resolution as: determining, resolving, deciding; decision as to future action; the act of changing or transforming. People who make resolutions each year sometimes fall short of their goals for one reason or another.
Similar to a New Year’s resolution, the City Council over the years has established a policy calendar to prioritize various projects important to our community. For 2006 the Council’s resolution was to consider the Civic Center Master Plan, Capital Improvement projects, Code Amendments/Ordinance Updates and other issues designated as important to the community. I am pleased to report that we either completed projects and issues set for that year or they are in progress and being carried into 2007.
In the years ahead, achieving the goals that we set will depend more and more on our vision and energy in order to make wise decisions for the future prosperity of our community. The Council will soon be establishing our “resolutions” for 2007 that will require significant cooperative efforts to achieve. Those projects in progress as well as new issues must be orchestrated in such a way as to provide for a more efficient local economy and provide revenues to support essential local services.
I look forward to working with my colleagues and appreciate their individual expertise. I also appreciate hearing from the residents as to their opinions on various matters. Together, we make a strong team, which in turn, translates to a vibrant and efficiently run city. Here’s to a Happy 2007.
