The baton has now been passed to a new city council group and I want to congratulate them and wish them all the best. Since this is my last official column, I want to take this opportunity to thank all the residents of Foster City for trusting in my leadership capabilities and allowing me to serve them on this council for two four-year terms. In my opinion there is no career that can offer as much satisfaction as serving the public on the city council level. I can’t believe that it has been eight years since I stepped into the new Council Chambers and began a wonderful journey with some of the top leaders who have served this city such as Ron Cox, Marland Townsend, Deborah Wilder and Rick Wykoff and now with Art Kiesel, Charlie Bronitsky and Pam Frisella. I am deeply grateful to all of them for their support, dedication and most especially, their friendship. It has been a magnificent experience that I will treasure forever.
It is a rare opportunity to be able to serve one’s community as I have done and it has been an honor and privilege to have met so many wonderful people. Over the years I have appreciated the great discussions with residents on various issues through their emails, phone calls, and even in the grocery store aisles. I will miss those precious moments. I will also miss meeting with our school children and listening to their thoughts and ideas about government, attending their classroom sessions and helping them develop some understanding about how local government works.
It has been exciting to have played a role in the decision making processes that contributed to the many successes for the betterment of our community. The city is moving in a great direction thanks to a dedicated council team and a terrific city staff who have steered a solid course which will maintain the sense of community that we enjoy in Foster City. I will also miss the entire city staff and I want to publically thank them for their professionalism and dedication to this city.
Change isn’t easy but change is inevitable and necessary for continued growth and development. I continue to encourage residents to be involved in some way whether it is on an advisory committee or volunteering for some event and stay informed about what is happening in the city. It is that type of community spirit that will nurture new leaders for the future. I intend on staying involved in local government in some fashion and will continue to support this great community. Since there are so many people to thank I will simply say:
…………….THANK YOU FOSTER CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
