Last Words on the Solar Bees
At our last meeting the City Council voted to remove the solar bees from our lagoons. The City Council voted in January of this year to have a 6 month trial test of the solar bees. We put about 800 gallons of chemicals each year to keep the algae and widgeon weed to a minimum. At some point, we may be forced to look for alternatives to using chemicals. Each year more and more chemicals are being banned from use. The process will be a lot different than this last test.

I was the swing vote and the one and only reason to remove these things from the lagoon was plain and simple, they were ugly. We have asked staff to look for more alternatives that will help eliminate the chemicals we now use. Before anything else goes into the lagoon, we are going to make sure they work and are visually acceptable and integrate into our lagoon system.

I want to thank everyone that sent us emails about the solar bees. I can assure you all, that the 5 council members are working hard to make Foster City a great place to live and work. We will keep the public well informed when anything is happening in the lagoons.
