Our City Council will be adopting a proclamation celebrating July as Parks and Recreation Month. As many residents are aware, our Parks and Recreation Department strives to create community and quality of life through people, parks and programs.
With July as Parks and Recreation Month, it is a perfect opportunity in a perfect setting of our parks and community buildings to enjoy the many benefits of Parks and Recreation. Your participation in local programs will contribute to a healthy mind and body, lifelong learning, as well as personal and family development.
Look through the summer edition of our Leisure Update for the recreation or park program that will surely offer each citizen a chance to enjoy and recognize the social, mental, economic, environmental, and community benefits derived from recreation classes, programs, parks and facilities.
I would also like to acknowledge some recent community events that were celebrated through Parks and Recreation. It was with great pride that the City Council was on hand to acknowledge and induct three citizens into the Sports Wall of Fame at Sea Cloud Park. Steve Okamoto was inducted by Little League Baseball, Jeff Brown by Pony/Colt Baseball, and Paul Delmonico by AYSO Soccer. These gentlemen were recognized for their outstanding contributions and efforts on behalf of youth sports in Foster City. The requirements just to start with are 10 years of dedicated service. Congratulations!
I also wanted to acknowledge Parks and Recreation?s program effort with the opening of our new mobile skate park with the Skate Jam program that took place last week. The City Council is anxious to listen, learn, and observe how this new program develops over the next six months. All skateboarders should call the Parks and Recreation Department at 286-3254 for more information on the Skate Park program, and don?t forget to wear a helmet.
So remember that July is Parks and Recreation Month, take the time to enjoy the experience of fun, play, parks and celebration!
