By the time this Council Corner gets to press, the Christmas Holiday will be over but the holiday spirit will still be with us. All of the hustle and bustle that began at Thanksgiving is winding down with New Year's Eve just a couple of days away. I hope everyone is enjoying this time with family and friends and your special traditions. The holiday season has a special magic about it and I have witnessed an increase in the spirit of giving and sharing. It is the sign of our times right now. I know some people can’t wait for the new year to begin because of the stressful times some families are continuing to face.
This is the time of the season that we reflect on the year that is ending and look ahead to what the next year will bring. The new year signals a fresh start. It’s a good time for us to refocus on what matters most and maybe take this time to set personal goals and benchmarks.
I am personally looking forward to 2011 serving as your Mayor and tackling some of the challenging issues facing this city. I am confident that my colleagues and I can steer a successful course that will maintain the sense of community that we enjoy in Foster City. We have already begun the hard work of evaluating the issues facing us but we still have some hard choices to make. In the new year we will once again roll up our sleeves and think outside the box with regards to being able to maintain some services and activities that are enjoyed by our residents. I continue to encourage you all to take the time to be involved and stay informed as changes in the way our city operates are inevitable. It is that community spirit that will help us achieve goals in the best interest of those who live, work and play in Foster City.
Have a safe and Happy New Year!
