Foster City's Own Emergency Preparedness
With all of the emergency response concerns associated with the catastrophic events in the last month along the south east Gulf Coast, I thought it would be timely to discuss Foster City’s emergency preparedness.

The City Council, both past and present, has set a policy for our City Manager indicating that emergency preparedness response and recovery shall take a back seat to nothing.

Our City Manager, Jim Hardy, with his management team and all city employees which encompass all departments of the City, continue to train and practice all phases of emergency preparedness.

We have some of the best personnel available throughout the City staff structure who are knowledgeable and dedicated to protecting life and property as well as City infrastructure.

The City staff has in the past and continues to mitigate problems that can be mitigated, plan and train to respond to hazards which cannot be mitigated, pre-position equipment which may be needed to address infrastructure interruptions and has the necessary direction and resources provided by City Council policy to insure that when a catastrophe occurs, decisions will be made and responses will be accomplished without political or administrative delay.

Having been involved in emergency services in one form or another for over 50 years, I feel very confident that Foster City lives, property and infrastructures are indeed in very good hands and that indecision will not be a problem in regards to emergency preparedness and response.

If anyone has any questions regarding emergency preparedness or response, please do not hesitate to contact our City Manager, Jim Hardy, who is also the Director of Emergency Services for Foster City. His phone number is (650) 286-3220 or e-mail address is jhardy@fostercity.org.
