Monday night, November 4th was a delightful evening for me. I want you to know how much I appreciate your support in getting me re-elected to City Council in 1998 and how much I appreciate the confidence shown me by my council peers in selecting me to represent our City as Mayor during my final year in office.
Vice Mayor Marland Townsend and Councilmembers Deborah Wilder, Rick Wykoff, and Ron Cox are truly a special group of professionals dedicated to maintaining and improving this quality of life we call Foster City. You guys, I can?t thank you enough for this honor you have shown me.
Now, what do I see as our major focus this coming year? We will continue our buildout. The city buildings on our community campus will be completed. The NPJC will be going full bore with their new construction and we will complete many of the improvements envisioned in the Civic Center Master Plan.
The dredging project is now underway but I don?t expect it to be completed until 2004. Visa will complete their fourth building and I expect EFI on Third Avenue to start the third building on their five building campus.
I don?t know how we do it but I expect the Parks and Recreation programs to be even bigger and better this year. With Kevin Miller and Jonathan Korfage having achieved both California and national leadership status, I am expecting them to set a national example.
I could go on and on about this magnificent city but I know that your are all fully aware that what we have is a result of good planning, outstanding staff work and considerable involved participation by you.
We are where we are because of fiscally conservative and well managed government and I can assure you that you will see this same dedicated commitment by your city government throughout the coming year.
One final comment. I had a degree of success previously when I made myself available on Sundays sitting out in front of our library. What I plan to do this coming year is, starting after the holidays, to again be available out in front of our library between 1-2 pm on the Sunday immediately preceding the first council meeting of each month. (That will, in most months, be the first Sunday of the month.)
