With advances in the Biotech industry, we are seeing a new focus on potential economic growth for San Mateo County. In turn, Foster City will have an excellent opportunity to reap some of the rewards of this “New Wave” of growth.
Our proximity to major transportation, the quality of our schools, parks and recreation services offer a tremendous community appeal. Foster City is evolving and it is important that as policy makers, we effectively position our city in a way that will increase local economic activity and business revenue while preserving the community lifestyle we’ve established over the years.
A recent issue that has come under discussion and policy review is the city’s sign ordinance. For many months the Chamber of Commerce has worked diligently on this project on behalf of Foster City’s business community. Together with the planning commission and city staff, they have put together a new sign ordinance that will benefit our city. I applaud everyone’s efforts, as I know how difficult a process this has been.
Change is never easy but a significant step has been taken and I am confident our entire community will benefit. This change will help revitalize our smaller businesses, which in turn will provide additional services and opportunities for our residents.
What was discussed at a recent council meeting will give larger companies a chance to identify themselves and be recognized as a part of the Foster City Community. All opinions voiced, both pro and con, had the very best interest of this community in mind. The forces of change are here.
Our city is maturing and we must look to shape the future by updating a strategy for future growth. Foster City is a well-established community located strategically on the peninsula. This combination makes it a very desirable place for families and businesses to call home.
As always, I welcome all your suggestions and comments on this and any other issues which may be of interest or concern to you.
