Councilmember Ron Cox

Council Corner
September 24, 2003
by Councilmember Ron Cox

A Little of Everything
I will start with the dredging of our lagoons. As most of you know the dredging has been going on for nearly a year now and is planned on being completed by November of this year. This should be the last time we have to dredge for many decades, and the disruption has been kept to a minimum.

The new council chambers are going to be completed by November of this year and be ready to swear in the new council on November 19th and vote on appointing the new mayor and vice mayor. The new council chambers will include a conference room where most of our advisory committees will meet. This room has the capabilities to televise meetings over channel 27. The council meetings will be televised from the main chamber.

Leo Ryan Park Phase 2 has started and will be completed by end of April 04. This includes the finishing of the amphitheater seating and new restroom next to the amphitheater. The boardwalk and pathway will be finished to the boat storage house (by the tennis courts). This schedule will allow all the Summer and Fall events to take place in the amphitheater next year.

Next week Visa is celebrating their 4th and final building being completed. From what I understand this will house the employees of Visa that are currently in San Mateo. I am glad that Visa opted to build this 4th building, they were under no obligation to build it.

Lastly I would like to mention the budget. We still do not know what the State is going to take from us. It looks to be about $1 million dollars. I guarantee that this council will be fighting tooth and nail for every penny we can save from the State.
