| Council Actions Motions: The least formal of Council actions. A motion is ordinarily used to indicate majority approval of a procedural action, such as to approve a report or recommendation.
Resolutions: Formalized Council actions which become effective upon adoption. It requires only one reading and may easily be changed by a subsequent resolution.
Ordinances: Legal instrument or laws used to affect general health, safety and welfare of the public. Most become part of the Municipal Code. With the exception of emergency ordinances, all City ordinances are introduced at a meeting, adopted at the next meeting and become effective thirty days after adoption. District ordinances are introduced and adopted at the same meeting and become effective 30 days thereafter.
Minute Orders: A means of documenting Council actions other than resolutions and ordinances. |
