Weed and Debris Control

Untended vegetation and debris around structures may pose a significant fire hazard, especially during summer months when vegetation tends to dry out if not maintained. For this reason the City of Foster City vigorously enforces Uniform Fire Code regulations regarding weed and debris control.

You will want to be especially aware of the following regulations:

  • Flammable vegetation and combustible growth must be cleared within 30 feet of a structure. The Fire Marshal may require a larger fire break if conditions warrant.
  • Trees must be trimmed to at least 10 feet from the outlet of a chimney and dead wood must be removed from trees that overhang a structure.
  • Roofs must be maintained free of leaves, needles or other dead vegetation.

By complying with these regulations we can work together to maintain the safety of our city and its residents.
