Fire Exits

Fire exits provide a continuous and unobstructed means of exiting from buildings. Fire exit systems may incluExit Plande aisles, doors, doorways, gates, corridors, exterior exit balconies, ramps, stairways, smoke-proof enclosures, horizontal exits, exit passageways, exit courts and yards. Required exit doors are not permitted to be locked when a building is occupied.

All exiting requirements are described in the Uniform Building Code and in the Uniform Fire Code. Additional questions about the exiting system in your building may be directed to the Building Division at 286-3200 (Building@fostercity.org) or to the Fire Prevention Bureau at 286-3350 (Fire@fostercity.org).
