Fire Department Apparatus Fleet

Fire Department Fleet

Foster City's regular "front line" fleet consists of two fire engines, one fire truck and one command vehicle. One fire engine and one fire truck are held in "reserve" for use when one of the front line vehicles has to be taken out of service for maintenance or repair.

All Fire Department equipment is built specifically for the City of Foster City, which means the time between ordering and receiving a vehicle can be as long as 18 months. Once complete, however, the vehicles have exactly the dimensions, capacity and structure that the City needs and wants. Follow the links to view photos of the apparatus.

Engine 28 is the newest engine in the Fire Department fleet. It was received in September 1997 and went into operation in October 1997.

Engine 29 was built in 1994. The Fire Department was so pleased with its performance, that we had new Engine 28 (see above) built to the same specifications.

Truck 28 was purchased in 1998.  Truck 28 is a Tiller truck with a 100' aerial ladder. Although impressive in size, this vehicle is surprisingly maneuverable, even in the cul-de-sacs and narrow streets that characterize Foster City.

Battalion 6 is the vehicle that the Battalion Chief drives. The Battalion Chief is the commander on the scene of all major incidents in Foster City, so this vehicle is equipped with all the supplies and equipment needed to support the Battalion Chief in this role.

Engine 128 (Reserve)  was replaced as a front line vehicle in October 1997, but that does not mean that it is no longer an important part of the Fire Department fleet. Engine 128 is retained in reserve so that Engine 28 or Engine 29 can be taken out of service for preventive maintenance or repairs.

Truck 128 (Reserve), with its 75' aerial ladder, is pretty impressive. Like Engine 128, Truck 128 is an important part of the Fire Department fleet as it can function as either a Fire Truck or a Fire Engine when any of the front line apparatus must be taken out of service for preventive maintenance or repairs.

The Fire Boat enables Fire Department personnel to reach people who have become stranded in the City's lagoon system. Fire personnel are trained in basic water rescue for these types of situations.
