Real Estate Signs

A permit is not required to place residential real estate signs; however, they must meet certain requirements as explained below.

Signs used to advertise residential property sale, rent, or lease: 1) may not be illuminated; 2) must be mounted on a post or "A" frame; and 3) may not exceed four square feet in area. Such signs may also be subject to the following restrictions:

  • One such real estate sign is allowed on the property for sale, rent or lease at all times.
  • Up to four additional open house signs that may exhibit directional arrows and instructions are allowed on other private property with the owner?s permission on weekends, holidays and one week day per week for multiple listing service tour day.
  • No more than three such open house directional real estate signs may be located on a single property; no more than six such signs may be located within 40 feet of an intersection.
  • Real estate signs are not allowed on sidewalks, streets, medians, public right-of-way, or where they interfere with automobile sight distance, nor may they be taped, wired, glued, tied or in any way attached to light poles, street signs or any public property.
