Outdoor Burning

Fires kindled or maintained in outdoor barbecue pits that have been constructed in accordance with the Uniform Building Code are allowed with a permit from the Fire Chief. Barbecue pits may not be used for disposing of combustible waste material.

Permits are not required for the use of fires for the preparation of food when contained in an approved appliance designed and customarily used for that purpose. A typical example would be an outdoor barbecue grill.

No other outdoor burning is allowed in Foster City except as allowed by the Fire Chief when a special circumstance warrants considered attention.

For further information about outdoor burning regulations or to obtain a permit please call the Fire Prevention Bureau at 286-3350, or send e-mail to Fire@fostercity.org. When all conditions are met a permit for up to 30 days will be issued.
