| Parks Maintenance Worker II |

| DEFINITION: |
| This position requires demonstrated competency and leadership in a variety of maintenance duties. |
|
| DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS, FEATURES, REQUIREMENTS: |
| A full-time position at a skilled level. This position is distinguished from Maintenance Worker I in that it makes operational decisions in the field. The position is available for weekend work rotation and provides assistance to other departments in emergency and non-routine situations. |

| SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED: |
| Receives general supervision and direction. Provides basic instruction and direction to other team members in executing the basic tasks involved in carrying out project assignments. |
|
| IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES: |
| Performs mowing, weeding, trimming, pruning, cultivating, fertilizing, pest control, planting and cleaning of lawns, trees, plants, and parks; removes and disposes of trash and litter; maintains park and maintenance equipment, buildings and facilities; maintains irrigation systems; performs construction and demolition of park facilities, drainage, low-voltage electrical and irrigation systems for new, expanded and renovated park facilities as part of capital improvement projects; performs minor plumbing or building repair duties; supervises and coordinates Sheriff?s Work Program personnel; operates small trucks, dump trucks, ride-on and walk-behind mowing equipment; may be required to operate heavy equipment; utilizes a wide variety of construction tools and mechanical equipment; may be required to interact with customers on site or when requested; may be required to utilize department or City-wide software applications to maintain records or perform various duties. Involves significant time walking, stooping, bending, squatting, walking, lifting heavy objects, operating hand and power tools, equipment, and vehicles on a daily basis. Considerable time spent working outdoors in occasional extreme heat and cold; applying pesticides and chemicals to plants, lawns, shrubs and trees.

| Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: |
|
| Knowledge of: Advanced methods, materials, terminology and safe work practices of maintenance, construction, maintenance equipment and tools, gardening and landscaping, pesticide application. |
|
| Skill in: Physical stamina and strength to operate a variety of tools and equipment, perform physical tasks for long periods of time, and ability to lift light and heavy loads (20-90 lbs); physical flexibility to move objects and operate equipment; demonstrate ability to safely operate and drive vehicles and equipment.

| Ability to: Work independently; exercise good judgement; listen, understand, retain, follow, communicate, and apply verbal and written instructions and directions; effectively and safely operate equipment and tools; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; respond courteously to public inquiries and interact effectively with variety of different customers; recognize and use safe work practices; retain and apply specific and general information concerning equipment, functions, and projects; lead and direct the work of others; be available for weekend rotation duty (with another day off during the week). |

EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be: |

| Education: Completion of a job or technical training program in landscaping, horticulture or groundskeeping/maintenance; completion of high school or the equivalent. |
|
| Experience: At least two years of experience as a Maintenance Worker I with the City of Foster City Parks and Recreation department, or two years of equivalent experience with a comparable employer. |
|
| LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATION: |
|
| Licenses: Possession of a valid California Class "B" Driver's License with appropriate endorsements; meet requirements, maintain license and a good driving record.
|
|
| Certificates: Qualified Applicator Certificate, Pest Control Advisor certification, Backflow Prevention License, Certified Arborist, or National Certified Playground Inspector certification is preferred. |
