| Community Development Director |

| DEFINITION: |
| Under general direction of the City Manager to manage the overall operation of the Planning Department, including planning, zoning and subdivision functions; and to do related work as required. |
|
| IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES: |
| Plans, organizes, directs and controls the administrative and technical phases of city planning; reviews reports, maps and documents prepared by the department staff; reviews planning, zoning and subdivision studies; responsible for implementation of the Master Plan, and recommends revisions as required; responsible for the development of environmental impact reports; assures compliance with zoning ordinances; serves as staff liaison to the Planning Commission; consults with citizens and officials in planning and zoning problems; directs the administration and preparation of the annual department budget; serves as the liaison between the City and residents, as well as the commercial and industrial community; coordinates planning activities with regional and county agencies; supervises all department personnel. |

| Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: |
|
| Knowledge of: Principles and practices of community planning; applicable laws affecting planning and zoning, administrative and budgetary procedures; principles of management and training. |
|
| Ability to: Collect, analyze and interpret data pertaining to planning and zoning; prepare oral and written reports; plan, organize, direct and control the work of others; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. |

EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be: |

| Education: Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Baccalaureate Degree in Planning, Urban Studies or a related field. |
|
| Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible full time paid professional experience in Planning. |
